Privacy Policy

We are working on this page!

1. About this policy

[Business legal name] (ABN [ABN]), trading as Christmas Turkeys (“we”, “us”, “our”), respects your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, disclose and protect your personal information when you use christmasturkeys.com.au (the “Website”) or order from us.

We handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

2. What information we collect

We collect only what we need to run the website and fulfil your orders:

  • Contact details: your name, email address and phone number.
  • Delivery details: your delivery or pick-up address, delivery instructions and preferred delivery date.
  • Order information: the products you order, your order history and any messages you send us about an order (for example dietary or allergy requests).
  • Payment information: your payment is handled by our payment provider. We do not store your full card number or security code. We receive confirmation that a payment succeeded and the last four digits of your card.
  • Account details: your login email and password (stored in encrypted form), if you create an account.
  • Enquiries and feedback: anything you send through our contact form, email, phone or social media.
  • Technical information: your IP address, device and browser type, pages viewed and referring site, collected through cookies and similar technologies.
  • Marketing preferences: whether you have subscribed to or opted out of our emails or SMS.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you think a child has given us their details, contact us and we will delete them.

We do not ask for sensitive information (such as health or religious details). If you tell us about an allergy or dietary need, we use it only to handle that order safely.

3. How we collect it

We collect personal information directly from you when you place an order, create an account, fill in a form, subscribe to our newsletter, contact us or enter a promotion. We also collect technical information automatically when you browse the website. Where we receive information from a third party (for example, a courier or payment provider), we use it only for the purpose it was provided.

4. Why we collect and use it

We use your personal information to:

  • process, pack, deliver and support your order, including sending order confirmations and delivery updates;
  • take payment and prevent fraud;
  • manage your account and answer your questions;
  • send you marketing about our products and seasonal offers, but only if you have agreed or the law otherwise allows it (see section 7);
  • improve the Website, our range and our service;
  • meet our legal, tax, accounting and food-safety obligations; and
  • resolve disputes and enforce our terms.

We will not use your information for a different purpose unless you would reasonably expect it, you consent, or the law requires or allows it.

5. Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with people who help us run the business, and only what they need:

  • Couriers and delivery partners who deliver your order ([courier names]).
  • Payment providers who process payments ([e.g. Stripe, PayPal, Afterpay]).
  • Website, hosting and email providers ([e.g. your platform, hosting company, email service]).
  • Analytics and advertising providers ([e.g. Google Analytics, Meta]), as described in section 8.
  • Professional advisers such as accountants, lawyers and insurers.
  • Government and law enforcement bodies, where the law requires or authorises us to.
  • A buyer of our business, if we sell or restructure it, who will be bound to protect your information.

Our service providers may use your information only to provide services to us.

6. Overseas disclosure

Some of our providers store or process data outside Australia, including in [countries, e.g. the United States]. Before we send your information overseas, we take reasonable steps to make sure the recipient handles it consistently with the APPs, as the Privacy Act requires. If you would rather your information stay in Australia, contact us and we will talk through your options.

7. Marketing and your choices

We will send you marketing emails or SMS only with your consent, or where the Spam Act 2003 (Cth) otherwise allows. Every marketing message includes a simple way to unsubscribe, and we will act on opt-outs within five business days. You can also opt out at any time by emailing [privacy email]. Opting out of marketing does not stop order and delivery messages.

8. Cookies and analytics

The website uses cookies and similar technologies. Some are essential (for example, keeping items in your cart). Others help us understand how the website is used ([e.g. Google Analytics]) or show you relevant ads ([e.g. Meta Pixel, Google Ads]). You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though parts of the website, such as checkout, may not work properly without essential cookies. [Delete the advertising reference if you do not use advertising tools.]

9. Security and retention

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls and using reputable service providers. No online system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password for your account.

We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes above or to meet legal requirements. Business and tax records are generally kept for [seven] years. When we no longer need information, we securely delete or de-identify it.

If a data breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) as required under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.

10. Accessing and correcting your information

You can ask us for access to the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate, out of date or incomplete. Email [privacy email] with your request. We will respond within 30 days, and we may need to confirm your identity first. We will not charge for making a request, though we may charge a reasonable fee for the cost of providing access in some cases. If we refuse a request, we will tell you why in writing.

11. Links to other websites

The website may link to other sites, such as social media pages or payment providers. We do not control them and are not responsible for their privacy practices. Please read their policies before giving them your information.

12. Complaints

If you think we have breached the APPs or this policy, email [privacy email] or write to [postal address]. We will acknowledge your complaint promptly and aim to resolve it within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the OAIC at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be on the website with its “last updated” date. If we make a significant change, we will take reasonable steps to let you know.
